The Cato, Cardwell and Brownell families announce the peaceful home going of Evangelist Thelma Jean Cato, Retired Administrator and Journalist on Monday, August 8th, 2022 in Stone Mountain, Georgia
She leaves to mourn her loss and celebrate her life and legacy her children Samuel D. Brownell, Jr, (Mary Helen) Roger K. Brownell, Martin P. K. Brownell and Samilla D. Thorpe (Richard), as well as her other children Alfred Brownell (Bessie), Thomas Brownell (Harriette), Nete-Sie Brownell (Jackie) and Lucia Kear (Amos), 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends, including Shirley Brownell, Roseline Cooper, Martha Cooper, Saide Deshield, Albertine Onumah, Suzie Hardin, Billie Sanders, Mattie Alexander, Dr. Opal Ware, Josie McGhee, Elsie Bush, Jackie Dennis, Leona Hannah, Jeanie Butler, Beatrice Tweh and Carolyn Tah.
Pre-deceased by her 9 siblings, her sisters and friends Olivia (Wee-wee) Cooper, Nellie Greenfield, Merle Johnson, Lenora Gant, Ruth Phillips, Marva Wotorson and Elaine Wolo.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace and rise in glory.
Final arrangements are as follow:
Funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug 26th, 2022 at Antioch AME Church, 765 South Hairston Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30088 at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Hillandale Memorial Garden, 6201 Hillandale Dr. Lithonia, GA 30058.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, August 25th 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes and Crematory, 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA 30034
Repast Information will be given at the Church.

Sister Cato, my friend and dearest sister in Christ, once said to me, “one day I’ll be home with the Lord, away from all that suffer me” and I said to her, Sis, that is all our goal, to make it home.
