It is with very heavy hearts that the Greaves Family announces the passing of Mr. Samuel S. Greaves Jr on November 3, 2022 after a protracted period of illness. Tarnue as he was affectionately known by family and friends was born in Monrovia, Liberia on February 2, 1957, son of the late Mr. Samuel S. Greaves Sr. and Mrs. Kolu Greaves. Tarnue was preceded in death by his father Mr. Samuel S. Greaves Sr., mothers Mrs. Kolu Greaves, Mrs. Annie Greaves and Mrs. Markola Greaves, his beloved sister Mrs. Edna P. Railey -known as Teta in the USA, Mr. James D. Kessele Sr., Arkio Greaves, Mr. Pater Greaves, Mrs. Louise Greaves, Mr. Henry Baysah, and Mr. Moses Baysah.
Tarnue attended Lutheran Training Institute and Cuttington University in Liberia. After a year on Cuttington University, he migrated to Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA where he earned a degree from Calvin University. After his graduation, Tarnue moved to New York City, settled down and worked many years for Bear Stearns Company. He is survived by his wife, Nyeneplu Greaves, two daughters, Samantha Kolu Greaves Jean-Louis, Annie Markola Greaves, two grandchildren, Ian Jean-Louis, Nia Jean-Louis, three sisters, Annie Sonnie Myers, Janet S. Tarune, Florence S. Freeman, two brothers James S. Greaves, Patrick J. Greaves, brother-in-laws, Mr. Louis K. Railey Sr., Mr. Joseph J. Myers Sr., Isaac R.G. Freeman Sr., Sirleaf F. Tarnue in Liberia, five nephews in the United States, three nieces, three grand nephews and a host of other relatives and extended family members in Liberia.
